Caring for your pieces
Three minutes of care after each wear is the difference between a year and a decade.
Wipe each piece with the supplied cloth after wearing. Keep away from perfume, hairspray and chlorine. Store flat in the pouch or box, never tangled with other metal.
Jewellery goes on after perfume, hairspray, sunscreen and makeup are done — and comes off before washing hands, cooking or sleeping.
Use the cloth in your box. Skin oils and lotion are what dull a finish, not air. Fifty seconds with a dry cloth brings the shine straight back.
Store each piece in its own pouch, flat in the box, with the anti-tarnish strip. Never loose in a jewellery dish where chains scratch and plating rubs.
Showers, swimming pools, the washroom sink and dishwater all attack plating and loosen pearl thread. Take it off — it takes ten seconds.
Cleaning, by material
- Polki and kundan. Dry cloth only. Never dip in cleaning solution or detergent — the lac behind the stone softens, and the setting loosens. Bring it to the shop once a year and we will re-press and polish it for free.
- Pearls. Wipe with a barely damp cloth, then dry flat. Pearl thread stretches with wear; if a strand starts to swing or the knot gaps show, let us restring it before a bead is lost.
- Rhodium and gold-tone plating. Soft cloth, no abrasive pads and no toothpaste. Rotate the pieces you wear most so no single one takes every shower.
- Meenakari enamel. Wipe gently around the edges — the coloured reverse is fired glass, so drops and hard knocks chip it.
- Ghungroo and chains. Rinse with clean water only if sand gets in, dry upside down so the bells empty, then oil-free cloth.
What shortens the life of a piece
- Perfume and hair spray applied over the jewellery.
- Chlorine, bleach and dishwashing liquid.
- Sweat left on the metal overnight instead of wiped off.
- Storing bangles stacked tight — the edges mar each other.
- Forcing a hinged kangan open without undoing the safety chain.
Wearing, sizing and storage habits
Dress before you put a necklace on, and undress before you take it off. Bangles go on over a moisturised hand at the wrist, not forced across the knuckle. Rings marked adjustable hold US 6 to 9 — squeeze them closed with your fingers rather than bending them open.
Repairs and refills
We re-set stones, replace clasps, restring pearls and re-plate at cost, for as long as we make the piece. Bring it to the shop or post it to us with a note and the order number — we will quote before touching it.
